Tennis teamwork in Trafalgar Square

For a special one-day event, Kent-based A J Leisure.com constructed a natural turf tennis court in Trafalgar Square recently, having to build it within eight hours overnight and remove it four hours after the finish.

The court, complete with perimeter fence, was constructed for the LTA and Ariel Tennis Ace Finals, which saw Tim Henman and Boris Becker both presenting the awards and playing a match against each other.

Amongst a number of specialists brought in by A J Leisure, GreenTech ITM provided the Drain Core product which helped to provide a level base and acted as a drainage layer.

Lindum Turf supplied the playing surface, using their 40mm Lokturf product and, once Talbots had installed it, CSS (Championship Sports Surfacing Ltd) then added the finishing touches with line marking and grooming the turf.

Finally, the fencing of the court surrounds was handled by The Sports Fencing Company.

The event was shown on all the major news channels and featured in the national press, with everyone agreeing that all the companies involved had produced a first class tennis court.

Quite what Lord Nelson thought of it all no-one knows, but he can hardly have turned his blind eye to the proceedings.
