Sport and Recreation Alliance set to launch child activity campaign

Emma Boggis, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, is spearheading the child activity campaign
The 2018 Sport Summit, in association with Howden, will mark the official launch of the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s public facing work around children and young people.

The Alliance is proud of the work their members and the wider sector do to help young people to get and stay active.

There are the huge social, health, emotional and economic benefits of being engaged in sport and recreation.

However, they believe the current system isn’t delivering the outcomes we all want for children’s health, participation, well-being and resilience.
At this one-day event, they will launch their research into how effectively the system has operated.

They will ask the sector to sign their petition to build a system over the long term which offers high quality physical activities, with choice and the voice of young people at their heart.

Emma Boggis, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said: “The latest chapter of the Childhood Obesity Plan, published earlier this week by the Government, has shown a third of our children are now classed as overweight or obese upon leaving primary school. We all need to take responsibility for encouraging younger generations to be active.

“This event will provoke conversation, allowing us to engage in meaningful dialogue and share best practices as we push for a healthier, happier and more active future for children and young people.”

The event has been structured to bring government and the sector together to discuss how they can work better collectively and to learn from others who are winning against this ever-present challenge.

Add your voice to the conversation as the question ‘why have we failed our children?’ is asked. Book now and take your place at the 2018 Sport Summit to join senior government officials and leading voices from the sector.
