Contactless at Coffee Republic

Coffee Republic is to phase Barclaycard Business contactless technology, OneTouch, in at all 16 company-owned coffee bars across the UK.

In addition, Barclaycard Business is in discussions with Coffee Republic’s entire franchisee conglomerate to extend the rollout of OneTouch across their outlets in the coming year.

The move follows successful trials undertaken at Coffee Republic’s outlets in Canary Wharf, Broadgate, and Bluewater Shopping Mall, which saw a 50 per cent uplift in contactless transactions in the Canary Wharf bar from January (77) to April (115) 2008.

The highest volume of contactless transactions occurred in March when 118 consumers opted to pay for items using their contactless card, equating to 20 per cent of the total number of credit card transactions made that month (571).

The results also showed that on average, 100 contactless transactions were made every month during the trial, equating to 18 per cent of all credit card transactions made.

OneTouch is promoted at the entrance to each Coffee Republic bar on the door window and is very visible at point of sale.

The service allows customers to purchase items of £10 and under without the need to enter their PIN or sign or wait long periods at the point of sale. All they have to do is wave their contactless card in front of the Barclaycard Business OneTouch terminal.

Coffee Republic says that by using the new technology it has been able to significantly decrease the time taken per transaction once customer orders have been fulfilled.
