Former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington has cut the ribbon to reopen the day spa at the Bannatyne Health Club in Mansfield following a £1m redevelopment project.

The spa has been redesigned to cater for growing demand – increasing the number of treatment beds from seven to 12 and adding a new relaxation room with eight heated mosaic loungers and four water beds.

A mezzanine floor has also been created to incorporate two new fitness studios and café bar, adding to the club’s existing sauna, steamroom and swimming pool.

Olympic champion Adlington has signed a deal with Bannatyne Group to run SwimStars at the site – a programme she created to tackle the shortage in swimming teachers in the UK and promote swimming as a crucial life skill for young people.

“I'm especially pleased that Becky has taken the time out of her busy schedule to cut the ribbon at the spa," said Karen Wilkinson, group head of spa for The Bannatyne Group. "We have a strong working relationship with her through the Becky Adlington SwimStars children’s swim classes, which are very popular across our portfolio.

“During 2017, we have invested significantly to create new spas and improve our existing sites, which is something we will be continuing in the New Year."

Founded by Duncan Bannatyne in 1997, Bannatyne Health Clubs has 69 sites across the UK, more than 200,000 members and 3,000 staff. Forty-two of the clubs feature a Bannatyne Spa, making it one of the largest spa chains in the UK.
