Ahead of the smoking ban due in England in July, Scape Design Associates has showcased a design-led garden courtyard and bar concept for hoteliers, publicans and restaurateurs.

The scheme was introduced at Hospitality 2007 earlier this year and sees the bar area laid out beneath a timber pergola, with ivy hedge screens and modern planters filled with dramatic feature plants being used to create an illusion of green walls.

The black and white theme used is softened with a carpet of green Astroturf, which helps provide a garden-like feel throughout.

Scape Design Associates is a London-based landscape architectural practice providing all aspects of design service from initial concept to on-site supervision.

Its hotels and leisure portfolio includes projects at the Grecotel Cape Sounio, Greece; the Eva Palace in Corfu; the Radisson SAS Golden Sands hotel in Malta; and the Banyan Tree, Navarino Bay, Greece. The latter is due for completion in 2008 and will be Europe's first Banyan Tree Resort.
