Electrosonic Co-Founder Bob Simpson awarded MBE in 2017 New Year’s Honours

Simpson and his company Electrosonic have engineered large scale audio-visual installations at museums, theme parks and cultural landmarks
Bob Simpson, Co-Founder of Electrosonic, has been awarded an MBE for services to the audio-visual industry.

Simpson’s work with Electrosonic over the past 52 years has helped to define the industry.

From the company’s inception in 1964 Simpson and his co-founders, Denis Naisbitt and Michael Ray, have engineered large scale audio-visual installations, including complex multi-media shows in Tehran in the 1970s, the world’s largest video wall at EXPO 92 in Seville and major theme park installations from 1990 onwards.

Electrosonic pioneered innovation in the audio-visual industry, working on designs that had never been done before and inventing products to create one-of-a-kind experiences and attractions in museums, theme parks, cultural landmarks and other attractions.

Simpson said : “I am pleased to receive this award, not only for myself, but also for my colleagues at Electrosonic. Recognition of the company as a significant force within the audio-visual industry will be as welcome to them as it is to me.”

Simpson’s contributions to the industry, outside of Electrosonic, include writing and lecturing on audio-visual and lighting control topics, he has also written a number of books including: ‘Videowalls - The Book of the Big Electronic Image’, ‘Lighting Control - Technology and Applications’ and ‘Electrosonic - 50 Years on the Audio-Visual Front Line’.

The MBE is one of a number of awards recognising Simpson's and Electrosonic’s impact on the audio-visual industry. Other awards include: the Queen’s Award to Industry for Export Achievement in 1978 and the INFOCOMM Distinguished Achievement Award in 2008.
