A software-based ticketing system, developed by Leeds-based specialist Logical Minds, has helped York Racecourse to achieve a record season this year, says Racecourse Head of Marketing and Sponsorship, James Brennan.
Restricted by a pre order paper-based ticketing system, the racecourse - which has just hosted Royal Ascot 2005 - asked Logical Minds for assistance.
Logical Minds' Managing Director David Weaver says: "By doing away with the previous pre ordered paper-based system and developing software tailored specifically to the racecourse's requirements, it now has one of the most customer-focused ticketing systems in the country."
Visitors can now order on-line or by phone, with a new QuickAddress system helping staff to accurately identify the customer's address through post code and house number details.
Order processing is also carried out on the system, making sure that standard and discounted ticket prices are applied consistently, and every ticket is now fully personalised with the customer's name and reference number. They are then printed off in sequential order to allow quick identification and dispatch by pickers.
As the racecourse experiences regular surges in ticket demands, the system also allows hundreds of tickets to be printed off in a matter of minutes rather than hours.
A further benefit of the new system, identified by Logical Minds' Sales and Estimating Director Andy Travis, is that it can act as a complete databank of customer purchases, allowing an analysis of the effectiveness of promotional offers and this then permitting informed decisions to be made about future promotions.
