It's raining chocolate!

Commissioned by attraction designers Event Communications, Newangle has completed work on The Purple Planet, a state of the art virtual exhibition forming part of a £2m investment programme at Birmingham's Cadbury World.
Purple Planet features mirrors, wall-sized screens, hidden cameras, motion detectors and interactive projections that react when touched or a visitor moves their body. They form a series of virtual exhibits including chocolate rain falling from the sky and a photo area that moulds people into cyber chocolate sculptures.
Newangle perfected a series of interfaces and encountered some interesting problems along the way, including creating an electronic recipe for virtual chocolate which had to please the trained eyes of chocolate factory workers.
They also enlisted the help of Cadbury cocoa bean experts to ensure their cyber cocoa trees grew when precisely the required ratio of virtual sunlight, shade and food was delivered.
Of paramount importance to the design of not only the physical interface but also the software that drives it, was accessibility for the disabled.
Cadbury World, based in Bournville, Birmingham, sees more than half a million visitors a year and has become one of the largest paid-for indoor visitor attractions since it opened in 1990.
