Male cancer charity Orchid has created an innovative new awareness initiative for the leisure industry.
Orchid is the first registered charity to save men's lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness, with the new scheme taking the form of a shower card which can be displayed in gyms, swimming pools, sports centres, football clubs, rugby clubs and golf clubs, etc.
Orchid reports that, internationally, male cancers are on the increase, with the incidence of testicular cancer having doubled over the last 20 years. In more than 25 per cent of cases the disease will have spread before diagnosis.
Further, one in 12 men will develop prostate cancer - over half seeing the disease spread before diagnosis - and 10,000 will die every year from prostate cancer, a figure which equates to one every hour.
