Sydney's Taronga Zoo is to see the launch of a new online ticketing system, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
Scheduled to commence in July, the new facility is designed to reduce queues and speed entry to the popular attraction, in addition to providing the zoo with valuable marketing data.
The A$100,000-a-year deal with computer company Centaman Systems allows visitors to book activities -such as educational tours - online and then print off bar-coded tickets and vouchers.
On arrival at the zoo, ticket holders will be able to use mobile bar-code scanners to gain entry, allowing the deployment of roving admissions staff at peak periods and saving on the cost of fixed PoS terminals.
The Centaman system integrates online ticket, venue and parking bookings, point-of-sale, stock control, relationship management and a rewards programme.
The zoo will create a member database distinct from the 54,000-member Zoo Friends, a not-for-profit organisation that raises money and provides volunteers for zoos' conservation efforts.
The technology upgrade is part of a 12-year, A$225m redevelopment at both Taronga and its associated Western Plains site at Dubbo.
