January this year saw Hackney's Britannia Leisure Centre reopen after a £1.5m refurbishment which included new swimming pool changing rooms, upgrades to the reception area and the health suite, new mechanical and electrical services, access improvements for the disabled and major external works.
Locker service supplier, Leisure Innovations supplied Prospec lockers for the project, providing around 80 compartments in a variety of sizes designed to accommodate use by both families and members with large sports bags, plus lockers specially created for use by the disabled.
The centre received Leisure Innovations' full package of supplying and maintaining the lockers free of charge, with the customer receiving a split of the revenue generated by the lockers.
A similar package is in place at the Cascades Leisure Centre in Gravesend, where the company replaced old metal lockers with a new wooden laminate version which gives the site the look of a private club.
The numbers of lockers was reduced - which improved security by eliminating blind spots and opening the area up - and those removed were replaced with bench seating.
In addition to the revenue share package enjoyed by the Britannia and Cascades centres, Leisure Innovations offers fixed price service contracts and a short term basis locker rental service, the latter advantageous when refurbishment work is being undertaken.
