Smarte move by CoCo Key

Smarte Carte, Minnesota-based provider of locker, stroller and cart services, is to install lockers at four CoCo Key Waterpark Resorts and has agreements for four further Coco Key parks.

The company has already installed its Smarte Locke® 1000 Series electronic locker solution - which features RFID wristband locker access - at four Coco Key Water Resorts.

These include Clock Tower Resort and Sheraton Chicago Northwest in late 2006, Cherry Valley Lodge, Newark, Ohio in January and Sheraton Ferncroft, Boston, MA in May 2007.

The installations just announced will be taking place in late 2007 and early 2008.

With the Smarte Locke 1000 system, customers rent a wristband from the park's ticket window, front desk or other designated area. The wristband has an embedded RFID chip which is activated at the time of rental.

When guests scan the wristband at any locker access station, a door is immediately assigned and opened. A multiple-entry system allows them to open and close the locker as many times as they like for the duration of their stay.

In addition to RFID access, Smarte Locke keyless electronic lockers can utilise PIN codes or bar code technology for locker access.

Customer benefits include coin, token, bill or credit card payment options, change making and touch-screen or LCD instructions. All the lockers include computerised management functions to monitor locker activity, track usage, maximise security and - says the company - significantly reduce locker maintenance and labour costs.

The Coco Key project itself is a joint venture between hotel developer Sage Hospitality and waterpark developer Wave Development LLC, which has plans to add waterparks to as many as 20 business class hotels over the next few years.

The 40,000 - 80,000sq ft waterparks have a 1930's Key West theme and feature water slides, an indoor adventure river, a wave pool, a floating theatre and other water attractions, as well as restaurants, an arcade and other amenities.
