Up for the High Jump

Brand new from Swiss company Air Games Maxi Fun is a new thrill ride called the High Jump.

A system which effectively fires the rider into mid-air on elastic tethers, it is said to provide the sensation of a strong acceleration, then the impression of high altitude with - at the highest point of the ejection - a feeling of weightlessness, followed by a short free fall.

In operation the rider steps into the centre of a platform where they are harnessed by the operator. The harness, equipped with 2 shoulder straps, is held back onto the ride frame with a special release hook.

On each side of the harness are elastics which are connected to ropes, the ropes themselves being wound round an electrical hoist.

Depending on his or her weight, the rider gives more or less tension to the elastics. This allows riders from 40-110kg to ride, although an additional elastic is necessary above 90kg.

Then elastics are tensioned and the operator releases the rider by opening the release hook. The rider is then propelled to a height that can reach 18m.

The turnaround time of each ejection is in the region of 2.5-3 minutes, allowing between 20-25 riders per hour.

Reported to be of simple design and easy to set up, High Jump consists of a 40sq m dismountable base to which the two 15m masts are attached, plus an electrical hoist, the elastics, the ropes and the harness.
