Singapore's Pomeroy Studio, Arup and national sporting body Sport Singapore have created a masterplan for an 89ha (220ac) sustainable sports and recreation destination around the site of the existing Singapore Sports Hub.

Planned facilities at the Kallang Alive development include a football hub and a tennis centre for both community and international tournaments.

Facilities being considered for a youth hub on the site include velodrome, speed climbing and BMX venues.

Kallang Theatre will also be redeveloped into an integrated sport, entertainment and lifestyle centre.

A green space for the community will be created along the bordering waterfront, which will be accompanied by a public park and a "green loop" walking, cycling and e-scooter path that will connect areas of the development and the development with other areas in the city.

As the site for Kallang Alive is a former airfield, the green loop will celebrate its aviation history.

Prof. Jason Pomeroy, founding principal of Pomeroy Studio, explained: "We are celebrating the circular geometry of the airfield as a walking and cycling loop that undulates through varied landscapes and links up the waterfront.

"The loop will form a heightened means of mobility for everyone visiting the various sports, entertainment and recreational venues within the Kallang Alive precinct and will, thus, re-establish a new gathering point; though this time for the community, as well as many a star of track, field, court or stage."

To further enhance the enhance user experience of the green loop, the potential for using green technologies to control its temperature and humidity are being explored.

In addition, solar panels and kinetic pressure pads embedded in the ground may be used to generate clean energy.

Interactive light and art installations, meanwhile, will tell the story of Singapore’s culture and sporting heritage.

The foliated waterfront boardwalks, wetlands and greenery of the park will provide both a place for recreation and a natural means of temperature reduction, carbon absorption and stormwater management.

Works on the development is underway and the Kallang Football Hub is scheduled to be the first venue completed next year.
