Pierattelli Architetture have proposed a new football stadium for ACF Fiorentina with an accompanying masterplan aimed at regenerating the Novoli district of Florence.

Fiorentina was bought earlier this year by Italian American businessman Rocco Commisso, who has indicated his desire to build a new stadium to replace the club's existing Stadio Artemio Franchi, which was completed in 1932.

Discussing the potential benefits of a new stadium, Massimo Pierattelli, president of Pierattelli Architetture, said: "The new stadium project certainly provides a unique opportunity for Florence ‒ for rethinking the relationship between the building, its functions and the city, adding new meaning to the structure and creating added value for citizens, as well as for fans."

Pierattelli's plan would see the stadium built in Novoli's Mercafir area, which the city recently put up for sale, and includes the redevelopment of the district and its road network.

A series of artificial hills would be created marking the perimeter of the masterplan and public facilities including a shopping mall and a restaurant with panoramic terrace would be built.

The stadium itself would have a length of over 150m (492ft), a maximum width of 200m (656ft) and a maximum height of 40m (131ft).

It is designed with a capacity for 40,000 fans, with an organic stone-shaped form of curved steel and a metal mesh cover in Fiorentina's colours of purple, white and red.

Facilities include VIP grandstands, 10 skyboxes, a swimming pool, a warm-up area, a wellness centre and meeting rooms for market or executive summits.

Commisso is aiming to move Fiorentina into a new stadium by 2023.
